Requesting a replacement through MyDMV Portal

Start at Florida's MyDMV Portal for an eligible lost or stolen credential. FLHSMV must verify your Social Security number to process an online replacement. Its replacement instructions direct customers to the Social Security Administration when verification fails. The stated mailing time is two to three weeks after the transaction.

The portal warns that submitted orders cannot be canceled. Its convenience fee is nonrefundable, so review the transaction before submitting payment. Use the portal's driver license service for a replacement license or ID; the separately labeled Express Motor Vehicle Renewal service concerns registrations and parking permits.

When Florida requires an office visit

FLHSMV lists commercial licenses, credentials marked TEMPORARY, and customers without REAL ID compliance among the cases requiring an office visit. Changes to a photograph, name or designation also belong in an office, as do court ordered credential updates. Its combined renewal and replacement page additionally lists customers whose last renewal used the online convenience service.

According to the Florida driver license service overview, locations differ in whether they accept walk ins or require appointments. Use the agency's location information for the service center you plan to visit rather than assuming the same arrangement applies statewide.

Documents for the replacement visit

Florida's What to Bring instructions say that once the required identity documents have been provided, they do not need to be supplied again unless information such as the name or residential address changes. The same page routes customers to separate document instructions for U.S. citizens, immigrants, nonimmigrants and Canadians.

For a U.S. citizen who needs to establish REAL ID documentation, the citizen checklist requires primary identification, Social Security proof and two different documents showing the Florida residential address. A valid U.S. passport or passport card is one accepted primary document. A current driver license or ID card cannot serve as address proof. The complete document choices and name matching rules are covered on the Florida REAL ID guide.

Replacement fees checked October 16, 2026

The FLHSMV fee schedule lists a replacement driver license at $25 and a replacement identification card at $25. A tax collector office may add a $6.25 service fee. For an ordinary replacement with that additional charge, the total is $31.25.

For an online replacement, the $2 processing charge listed by FLHSMV makes the ordinary $25 replacement a $27 transaction. These amounts were checked against the agency's published pages on October 16, 2026; the pages do not identify a new effective date for these replacement charges.

The fee schedule also identifies a free replacement for veterans whose only change is adding the Veteran designation. Veterans who provide, or have already provided, evidence of veteran status are exempt from the tax collector service fee for the marked license and ID transactions. Eligibility and other military transactions belong on the Florida veterans and military guide.

Florida's September 2026 card redesign

The September 29, 2026 FLHSMV announcement says the redesigned credential became available in service centers September 30, with online ordering expected by early November. As of October 16, that announced online rollout date is still ahead.

The redesign does not require everyone to buy another card. FLHSMV expressly says existing valid credentials remain valid until expiration. A different card illustration on the agency website is therefore not, by itself, a reason to order a replacement.
