Checking a Florida license before buying a record

The FLHSMV Driver License Check asks for the driver license number and the displayed verification code. The page explains that a VALID result means FLHSMV has received the information needed to clear the record. It allows the response to be printed as the department's latest official receipt.

For a record showing points and citation details, FLHSMV's points information identifies the purchased driver history as a way to see the number of points and when and where citations were issued. The free status check and a history transcript serve different purposes. Point values and suspension thresholds are covered separately in the Florida points guide.

Choosing three years, seven years or the complete history

Florida's record explanations distinguish the reports by what they display. Three and seven year transcripts include guilty traffic dispositions within the selected period and all open driving privilege sanctions. The complete record also includes retained dispositions where adjudication was withheld and additional correspondence. Entries already purged under retention rules do not reappear simply because the complete option is selected.

The agency's guide to reading a Florida driver record distinguishes certified from noncertified records separately from the three history lengths. Certification and the reporting period are therefore two choices, rather than one combined choice.

That reading guide also explains sanction entries. They identify the action, effective date, originating jurisdiction when applicable, length, notification information and restoration date. Read the status of the particular sanction as well as the overall driver privilege status; a historical sanction entry and a current unresolved action are different parts of the record.

Ordering your own history online

FLHSMV's MyDMV Portal overview lists Driver License Record Request among the available transactions. Creating the secure account requires identity verification against the department's records. Customers who cannot complete that verification are directed to a local office.

The same portal description lists citation inquiries, sanction and stop inquiries, and parental access to a minor's driving history. Those are separately named functions. Select the record request when you need the transcript itself. FLHSMV's record FAQ confirms that customers can purchase their own three year, seven year or complete history through the portal.

Getting a Florida record in person or through a provider

FLHSMV identifies driver license service centers, participating clerks of court and private vendors as purchase options. Its authorized record provider directory names businesses allowed to provide interactive access to the department's driver history file and motor vehicle records.

The directory says its providers are displayed in random order. Placement at the top is therefore not an agency ranking. It also notes that some listed providers do not supply motor vehicle records. For a clerk purchase, the directory directs users to select their county in the agency's location listings and contact the participating office.

Mailing Form HSMV 90511

Download the Driver License Records Request, HSMV 90511. Fill in the requester and driver information, choose the history period and indicate whether certification is needed. A request for your own personal information must be signed.

The form's mailing address is Division of Motorist Services, 2900 Apalachee Parkway, Room B239, Mail Stop 52, Neil Kirkman Building, Tallahassee, FL 32399. Payment is due with the request. The record FAQ specifies a check or money order payable to the Division of Motorist Services.

The publications express processing time differently: Form 90511 says two weeks from receipt; the record FAQ says ten business days. Neither is an estimate of postal delivery time.

Florida record fees checked October 16, 2026

Form 90511 lists an uncertified three year history at $8, a seven year history at $10, and a complete history at $10. A certified three year, seven year or complete record is $10; mark which period you want. These are the form's published amounts checked October 16, 2026, not fees newly effective on that date.

The FLHSMV fee schedule, also checked October 16, 2026, marks driver history transactions as potentially subject to an additional $6.25 tax collector service charge. Private provider purchases follow the provider's ordering process; the state form's prices do not establish a vendor's total checkout price.

What another person can receive from your record

Florida's Driver Privacy Protection Act explanation says personal information is blocked automatically. You do not have to submit an opt out request for that protection. The protected categories include name, address, driver license or ID number, telephone number, Social Security number, and medical or disability information. Emergency contacts and email addresses have separate Florida statutory protection.

Driving violations and driver status are treated differently from those protected identifying details. To obtain another person's protected information, a requester must qualify for an allowed exemption and identify it on the request form. Written permission from the record subject is one of the access routes described by FLHSMV.

The agency's record production fact sheet further explains that bulk data arrangements do not authorize marketing use and carry certification, security and audit obligations. An authorized record provider listing does not make every customer's personal details unrestricted public information.

An original issue date that looks too recent

FLHSMV explains that an expired record can purge after more than 18 months when no retained entries keep it in the system. A subsequent issuance may then become the displayed original issue date. To correct it, the department requires evidence of an earlier license or ID issuance. See the agency's original issue date explanation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get my Florida driving record online?
Yes. FLHSMV lists driver history purchases through MyDMV Portal, with account identity verification required.

Is a certified record necessarily the complete history?
No. Form 90511 offers certification for all three history periods.

Will the complete history restore entries that were purged?
No. The FLHSMV record explanation excludes entries already purged under retention rules.

Does the first provider in Florida's directory have the highest rating?
No such ranking is stated. FLHSMV says the providers are displayed randomly.

Must I ask Florida to block my personal driver record information?
The agency's DPPA policy applies the general personal information block automatically.

Can I print my license status result?
Yes. Driver License Check permits printing its response as the latest official FLHSMV receipt. That response is distinct from a purchased history transcript.
