About this guide

Five places in and near Lompoc hold people in custody, run by three agencies. Which one holds a person depends on who arrested them and where their case stands.

This guide covers city jail, county jails, federal prisons, state prison and common questions.

The other Lompoc guides cover Lompoc public records, arrest records, warrants, criminal records, court records, police reports, traffic tickets, DUI, divorce records and property records.

Lompoc Police Department Jail

The police department's jail at 107 Civic Center Plaza holds people the Lompoc police arrest, from booking until they are released, go to court or are moved to the county jail. Its phone is (805) 875-8140.

  • Visiting: Monday through Friday, 7:00 to 7:30 a.m., one visitor over 18 for ten minutes, with valid California identification. The jail turns away visitors with a felony or drug arrest in the last 10 years, a warrant, or probation or parole.
  • Lawyers and religious leaders may visit at any time.
  • Phones in the cells make collect calls between 6:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.

The rules are posted on the department's Department Jail page.

Santa Barbara County Jails

Anyone held after the first hours is in a Sheriff's jail. Search everyone in county custody on the Sheriff's Who Is In Custody page by name or booking number (CID); it shows the housing location, charges and custody status.

  • Northern Branch Jail: 2301 Black Road, Santa Maria, CA 93455, (805) 554-3100. A 376-bed jail for men and women, where people arrested in north county are usually held.
  • Main Jail: 4436 Calle Real, Santa Barbara, CA 93110, (805) 681-4260.

Visiting

Visits at the Northern Branch Jail are booked online: every visitor first registers with ViaPath at santabarbaraca.gtlvisitme.com, and approved visitors then schedule a visit. Inmates get two visits a week, with up to two visitors at a time, from a list of up to four names. Visitors check in 15 to 30 minutes early with photo identification. Anyone in custody in the past 12 months or on felony probation may not visit, and a person who served a state prison term needs the facility commander's written permission. The full rules are on the Sheriff's Visit an Inmate page.

Mail

Letters go by U.S. Mail with the inmate's name and CID number, to Santa Barbara County Northern Branch Jail, 2301 Black Road, Santa Maria, CA 93455, or to the Main Jail address above. Up to five photographs of 4 by 6 inches or smaller may go in one envelope; books and magazines must come straight from a publisher or seller. The Sheriff's Mail and Books page lists what is refused.

FCI Lompoc I and FCI Lompoc II

The Federal Bureau of Prisons runs a prison complex on the north side of Lompoc. Its two institutions hold people serving federal sentences, not people arrested on local charges.

  • FCI Lompoc I: 3600 Guard Road, Lompoc, CA 93436, (805) 736-4154. Low security; 868 people held when SearchSystems checked.
  • FCI Lompoc II: 3901 Klein Boulevard, Lompoc, CA 93436, (805) 735-2771. The former U.S. Penitentiary Lompoc, renamed in 2024 to match its current security level; low security, with minimum-security satellite camps. 2,228 people held, 335 of them in the camps.

Visiting at both institutions and the camps is on Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with no visitors processed after 2 p.m. Find a federal inmate, and the prison that holds them, with the Bureau's federal inmate locator, by name or register number.

State Prison

People sentenced to state prison in a Lompoc case are held by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, not in Lompoc. Its state prison inmate locator finds them by name or CDCR number.
