DPS's notes for this office

Printed with the office record on the DPS locator, in DPS's words: All driver license and identification card services including drive tests are by appointment only. This office will have a delayed opening at 9am on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Appointments and what this office does

DPS driver license offices issue and renew driver licenses, commercial driver licenses, identification cards and election identification certificates, give knowledge and driving tests, and handle changes of name and address, replacements and reinstatements. DPS says all of these services, drive tests included, are by appointment only, made on the DPS appointment scheduler, and that its Mega Centers are its premier locations; when one appears in a search DPS encourages using it for every driver license need, and when none is near, any office can assist.

Before the visit, check the document list for the service: the driver license guide covers a first license, the renewal guide a renewal, and the fees page what each costs. Vehicle registration and titles are not DPS services; they are handled by the county tax office below.

Questions about the Jacksonville office

Do I need an appointment at the Jacksonville office?

Yes. DPS says all driver license and identification card services, including drive tests, are by appointment only, booked on its own scheduler. DPS adds that every office keeps a limited number of same-day appointments, given out first come first served and filling quickly, with the exception of the Carrollton Mega Center; a customer who books one at the office can leave and come back at the appointment time.

What are the Jacksonville office hours?

Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, closed Saturday. The office is closed on the state holidays listed on this page.

Can I renew my license without coming in?

Often. DPS says you may be able to renew or change the address on your driver license or ID online and skip the trip, through its Texas.gov renewal service. The renewal guide explains who qualifies.

Where do I register a car or transfer a title near Jacksonville?

Not at this office. Vehicle registration and titles are handled by the county tax assessor-collector, for Cherokee County the Cherokee County Tax Office at 135 S. Main, Courthouse Rusk, TX 75785, phone (903) 683-5478.
