About this guide

Summit County, Utah, has about 43,000 residents (2024 Census Bureau estimate), and arrests there are reported to the FBI by the Summit County Sheriff's Office and two city agencies. An arrest leaves the same records whoever makes it: the arresting agency's report, the record of anyone held at the county jail, and, if the County Attorney files charges, a case in the District Court for Summit County. This guide says who keeps each one, what it costs and who may see it, with the arrest counts each agency reported.

This guide covers who makes arrests, how many arrests, booking and the jail, finding an arrest, copies, cities and common questions.

Who Makes Arrests in Summit County

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is the county agency that reports arrests to the FBI for Summit County. It reported 584 arrests for 2025.

Arrests inside two of the county's cities are reported to the FBI by an agency of the city's own, listed here with the Census population and what each reported:

  • Park City, 8,292 residents: 214 arrests reported for 2024.
  • Kamas, 2,145 residents: 1,182 arrests reported for 2025.

A city on that list is reported separately whether the officers are the city's own or the sheriff's under contract; the FBI's list does not say which.

How Many Arrests Each Agency Reports in Summit County

The FBI publishes every agency's monthly arrest counts on the Crime Data Explorer. These are the full-year totals, all offenses, as the FBI held them on October 8, 2026; a year with months missing or not reported is left out.

  • Kamas: 1,182 for 2025, 1,160 for 2024, 1,181 for 2023, 1,185 for 2022, 1,140 for 2021 and 1,149 for 2020.

Together, the two agencies with all twelve months of 2025 on file reported 1,766 arrests that year. The same agencies with both 2025 and 2024 complete reported 1,766 in 2025 against 1,780 in 2024, down 0.8 percent.

Through July 2026, the two agencies with every month so far on file reported 1,023 arrests, against 1,016 in the same months of 2025.

Park City reported only part of 2025 (11 months) and is left out of the totals.

Booking: Where People Arrested in Summit County Are Held

A person kept in custody after an arrest in Summit County is held at the county jail, whichever agency made the arrest, apart from the short stay some city departments' own holding cells allow; a person cited and released at the scene is not booked at all. The jail's record of each person held, with the charges, is a public record of the arrest, and the court file takes over from there.

On an average day in 2019 the jail held about 68 people. Its rated capacity in 2019 was 100 beds, and it ran at 68 percent of it that year. The figures are from the Vera Institute of Justice's Incarceration Trends data.

SearchSystems opened and checked the jail page of the Summit County Sheriff's Office at summitcountysheriff.org/DocumentCenter/View/26286/Inmates12292025 (page title: Summit County Sheriff's Office), which answered when SearchSystems opened it on October 1, 2026.

How to Find Out About an Arrest in Summit County

Whether someone was arrested in Summit County, and what came of it, shows up in two places: the case index of the District Court for Summit County, kept by the clerk of court, which shows whether charges were filed and the next court date; the County Attorney, which decides whether an arrest becomes a charge (its page is at summitcountyutah.gov/970/Staff, phone 435-336-3206).

The court records page SearchSystems verified for the county, at summitcountyutah.gov/228/Justice-Court (page title: Justice Court | Summit County, Utah Official Court Information | Summit County, UT), phone 435-615-3800, belongs to a lower court, not to the District Court for Summit County.

Statewide, MyCase and Xchange is free case lookup for parties through MyCase; the public Xchange search is by subscription.

Utah does not let the public search another person's statewide criminal history. The record kept by the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification goes to the person it belongs to and to employers and agencies the law authorizes; for everyone else the court's own case index is the public record of an arrest that led to a charge.

  • The court file of a case that was filed: in the District Court for Summit County it is kept by the clerk of court. The court records page SearchSystems verified for the county, at summitcountyutah.gov/228/Justice-Court, phone 435-615-3800, is a lower court's.
