About this guide

Mingo County, West Virginia, has about 22,000 residents (2024 Census Bureau estimate), and arrests there are reported to the FBI by the Mingo County Sheriff's Office, five city agencies and three campus, state or other agencies. An arrest leaves the same records whoever makes it: the arresting agency's report, the record of anyone held at the regional jail, and, if the Prosecuting Attorney files charges, a case in the Mingo County Circuit Court. This guide says who keeps each one, what it costs and who may see it, with the arrest counts each agency reported.

This guide covers who makes arrests, how many arrests, booking and the jail, finding an arrest, copies, cities and common questions.

Who Makes Arrests in Mingo County

The Mingo County Sheriff's Office is the county agency that reports arrests to the FBI for Mingo County. It reported 85 arrests for 2025.

The FBI lists five cities in Mingo County with a reporting agency of their own, with the Census population and what each reported:

The FBI's agency list also places these agencies in Mingo County: the Department of Natural Resources in Mingo County and the State Fire Marshal in Mingo County (state agency); the Williamson State Police (state police).
