How to Search Texas Court Records (Start Here)
Texas court records are filed with the District Clerk (felony/civil) / County Clerk (misdemeanor/probate). The District Court / County Court / Justice of the Peace handles trial-level cases. Texas offers a statewide court search through re:SearchTX, which covers most case types across all counties courts.
What this page covers: Texas state court case records — criminal, civil, family, and probate filings. What it does not cover: Federal court cases (those are on PACER) or sealed/juvenile records.
Where to start: Use re:SearchTX for online case search. If you need documents beyond docket information, contact the District Clerk (felony/civil) / County Clerk (misdemeanor/probate) in the specific county where the case was filed.
Common mistake: re:SearchTX covers state courts only. Federal cases filed in Texas (bankruptcy, federal criminal, federal civil) require PACER — a separate federal system.
Texas note: Texas splits court duties between two clerks. The District Clerk handles felonies and civil cases. The County Clerk handles misdemeanors and probate. Make sure you search the right clerk.
