Chapa was bound over on five counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, each a felony potentially punishable by up to a lifetime term of incarceration. Chapa is alleged to have repeatedly sexually assaulted a minor relative between the years 2001 and 2004, when the reported victim was between the ages of 8 and 11. The alleged assaults were first reported by the victim in 2007, and in 2008 the Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney charged Chapa with one count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.
