About this guide

Walton County, Georgia, has about 110,000 residents (2024 Census Bureau estimate), and arrests there are reported to the FBI by the Walton County Sheriff's Office and three city agencies. An arrest leaves the same records whoever makes it: the arresting agency's report, the record of anyone held at the county jail, and, if the District Attorney files charges, a case in the Walton County Superior Court. This guide says who keeps each one, what it costs and who may see it, with the arrest counts each agency reported.

This guide covers who makes arrests, how many arrests, booking and the jail, finding an arrest, copies, cities and common questions.

Who Makes Arrests in Walton County

The Walton County Sheriff's Office is the county agency that reports arrests to the FBI for Walton County. It reported 1,008 arrests for 2025.

The FBI lists three cities in Walton County with a reporting agency of their own, with the Census population and what each reported:

  • Loganville, 16,862 residents: 125 arrests reported for 2024.
  • Monroe, 16,270 residents: 514 arrests reported for 2025.
  • Social Circle, 5,415 residents: 70 arrests reported for 2025.

A city on that list is reported separately whether the officers are the city's own or the sheriff's under contract; the FBI's list does not say which.

How Many Arrests Each Agency Reports in Walton County

The FBI publishes every agency's monthly arrest counts on the Crime Data Explorer. These are the full-year totals, all offenses, as the FBI held them on October 8, 2026; a year with months missing or not reported is left out.

  • Walton County Sheriff's Office: 1,008 for 2025, 1,225 for 2024, 1,460 for 2023, 1,554 for 2022, 1,294 for 2021 and 1,267 for 2020.
  • Monroe: 514 for 2025, 657 for 2024, 753 for 2023, 738 for 2022, 847 for 2021 and 645 for 2020.
  • Social Circle: 70 for 2025, 40 for 2022, 25 for 2021, 41 for 2020 and 133 for 2019; 2023 and 2024 are missing months.
  • Loganville: 125 for 2024, 133 for 2023, 108 for 2022, 89 for 2021, 150 for 2020 and 508 for 2019.

Together, the three agencies with all twelve months of 2025 on file reported 1,592 arrests that year. The two of them with both 2025 and 2024 complete reported 1,522 in 2025 against 1,882 in 2024, down 19 percent.

Loganville reported only part of 2025 (3 months) and is left out of the totals.

Booking: Where People Arrested in Walton County Are Held

The county jail is where a person arrested in Walton County and kept in custody ends up, whichever agency made the arrest, though a city department may hold someone in its own cells first and a person cited and released at the scene is never booked. The jail's record of each person held, with the charges, is a public record of the arrest, and once the person is released or sentenced the record continues in the court file.

So far in 2026 the jail has held about 600 people on an average day, up from about 450 in 2019. Its rated capacity is 869 beds, and it is running at 70 percent of it. The figures are from the Vera Institute of Justice's Incarceration Trends data.

SearchSystems opened and checked the custody page of the Walton County Sheriff's Office at waltoncountyga.org (page title: Walton County, GA, Sheriff Office, Jails, Inmate Search), phone 770-267-1422, 1425 South Madison Avenue, Monroe, GA 30655, a site that blocks automated checks (HTTP 403), so open it in a browser.

That page is the place to look for someone who was booked recently; a person cited and released at the scene, or held only a few hours by a city department, will not be on it.

A person sentenced to prison serves the sentence in a facility of the Georgia Department of Corrections, whose inmate locator is at gdc.georgia.gov/offender-info/find-offender.

How to Find Out About an Arrest in Walton County

An arrest in Walton County can be traced in two places, depending on where the case stands: the custody page of the Walton County Sheriff's Office described above, for anyone booked into the county jail; the case index of the Walton County Superior Court, which shows whether charges were filed and the next court date (the court records page SearchSystems verified is at waltoncountyga.gov/317/Criminal-Cases, phone 770-267-1349).

Georgia is one of the states that lets anyone look up another person's statewide criminal history: Georgia Felon Search lets anyone check felony convictions online by name, through the Georgia Crime Information Center. That record shows what agencies reported to the state, which is wider than one county's court index but can lag it.
