Harris County, Georgia, has about 37,000 residents (2024 Census Bureau estimate), and arrests there are reported to the FBI by the Harris County Sheriff's Office and four city agencies. An arrest leaves the same records whoever makes it: the arresting agency's report, the record of anyone held at the county jail, and, if the District Attorney files charges, a case in the Harris County Superior Court. This guide says who keeps each one, what it costs and who may see it, with the arrest counts each agency reported.
This guide covers who makes arrests, how many arrests, booking and the jail, finding an arrest, copies, cities and common questions.

Who Makes Arrests in Harris County
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is the county agency that reports arrests to the FBI for Harris County. It reported 536 arrests for 2023, its latest complete year.
The FBI lists four cities in Harris County with a reporting agency of their own, with the Census population and what each reported:
- Hamilton, 1,799 residents: 6 arrests reported for 2025.
- Pine Mountain, 1,288 residents: 18 arrests reported for 2025.
- Waverly Hall, 664 residents: 0 arrests reported for 2025.
- Shiloh, 429 residents: 14 arrests reported for 2025.
A city on that list is reported separately whether the officers are the city's own or the sheriff's under contract; the FBI's list does not say which.
The West Point Police Department is listed by the FBI across two counties including Harris County, so its arrests are not broken out for Harris County here.
How Many Arrests Each Agency Reports in Harris County
Each agency reports its arrests to the FBI by month, and the FBI publishes them on the Crime Data Explorer. These are the full-year totals, all offenses, as the FBI held them on October 8, 2026; a year with months missing or not reported is left out.
- Pine Mountain: 18 for 2025, 52 for 2024, 55 for 2023, 49 for 2022, 99 for 2021 and 42 for 2020.
- Shiloh: 14 for 2025, 66 for 2024, 7 for 2021 and 19 for 2019; 2020, 2022 and 2023 are missing months.
- Hamilton: 6 for 2025, 12 for 2024 and 7 for 2023.
- Waverly Hall: 0 for 2025 and 4 for 2023; 2024 is missing months.
- Harris County Sheriff's Office: 536 for 2023, 335 for 2022 and 290 for 2021.
Together, the four agencies with all twelve months of 2025 on file reported 38 arrests that year. The three of them with both 2025 and 2024 complete reported 38 in 2025 against 130 in 2024, down 71 percent.
Through June 2026, the three agencies with every month so far on file reported 13 arrests, against 23 in the same months of 2025.
Harris County Sheriff's Office reported only part of 2025 (11 months) and is left out of the totals.
Booking: Where People Arrested in Harris County Are Held
A person kept in custody after an arrest in Harris County is held at the county jail, whichever agency made the arrest, apart from the short stay some city departments' own holding cells allow; a person cited and released at the scene is not booked at all. The jail's record of each person held, with the charges, is a public record of the arrest, and the court file takes over from there.
So far in 2026 the jail has held about 90 people on an average day, up from about 58 in 2019. Its rated capacity is 109 beds, and it is running at 83 percent of it. The figures are from the Vera Institute of Justice's Incarceration Trends data.
SearchSystems opened and checked the custody page of the Harris County Sheriff's Office at harriscountysheriff.org/inmateSearch (page title: Harris County Sheriff’s Office), which answered when SearchSystems opened it on September 23, 2026.
That page is the place to look for someone who was booked recently; a person cited and released at the scene, or held only a few hours by a city department, will not be on it.
A person sentenced to prison serves the sentence in a facility of the Georgia Department of Corrections, whose inmate locator is at gdc.georgia.gov/offender-info/find-offender.
How to Find Out About an Arrest in Harris County
An arrest in Harris County can be traced in three places, depending on where the case stands: the custody page of the Harris County Sheriff's Office described above, for anyone booked into the county jail; the case index of the Harris County Superior Court, which shows whether charges were filed and the next court date (the court records page SearchSystems verified is at harriscountyga.gov/clerk-of-superior-court-2, phone 706-628-4944); the District Attorney, which decides whether an arrest becomes a charge (its page is at harriscountyga.gov/district-attorney-2, phone 706-628-4080).
Georgia is one of the states that lets anyone look up another person's statewide criminal history: Georgia Felon Search lets anyone check felony convictions online by name, through the Georgia Crime Information Center. That record shows what agencies reported to the state, which is wider than one county's court index but can lag it.
Getting a Copy of an Arrest Record in Harris County
An arrest report belongs to the agency whose officer wrote it, and that agency releases it, not the court or the jail. Under the Georgia Open Records Act the agency must answer within 3 business days, and it may charge for search, retrieval and copying after the first quarter hour.

- An arrest in Hamilton, Pine Mountain, Waverly Hall or Shiloh: the records unit of the agency that reports for that city.
- A defendant who has been charged gets the report through the case: the District Attorney, 706-628-4080, handles discovery for pending cases.
- The court file of a case that was filed: the Harris County Superior Court, through the court records page at harriscountyga.gov/clerk-of-superior-court-2, phone 706-628-4944.
- Any county record that is not posted: the county records request page SearchSystems verified is at harriscountysheriff.org/openRecordsRequests (page title: Harris County Sheriff’s Office).
