Massachusetts keeps its court dockets in one Trial Court portal and sells a name based criminal record, CORI, that is built from the same courts' arraignments. Its sex offender website shows only Level 3 offenders and Level 2 offenders classified since mid 2013, with the rest available at a police station. Vital records sit at the state from 1936 and at the city or town clerk before that, and the registries of deeds are county offices with a shared online index.
The order to use: the Trial Court portal for cases, the SORB site and a Vinelink search for status, the corporations search for companies, the licensing boards for professions, then the registry of deeds through Masslandrecords and the city or town clerk for older vital records, both listed on the Massachusetts pages at SearchSystems, with iCORI when a formal criminal record check is wanted and the birth date is known.
- Courts, statewide: the Trial Court case access portal, party, event, docket and disposition details, explained on the court system's How to search court dockets page.
- Criminal record, by name and birth date: iCORI, Massachusetts arraignment records, up to ten business days.
- In custody and registered offenders: the Department of Correction with Vinelink, and the Sex Offender Registry Board website.
- Companies and licenses: the Secretary of the Commonwealth's corporations search and the professional license checks.
- Certificates, deeds and money: the Registry of Vital Records and Statistics, Masslandrecords and Find Mass Money.

The Trial Court case access portal
The Massachusetts Court System's How to search court dockets page, offered by the Executive Office of the Trial Court with the Boston Municipal, District, Housing, Land, Probate and Family and Superior Courts, describes the Trial Court case access portal as the way to find public electronic docket information: party, event, docket and disposition details, and, depending on the court department and case type, case documents. What the Trial Court may make available remotely is governed by Rule 5 of the Uniform Rules on Public Access to Court Records, and the official public record with hard copies of the public documents is at the office of the Clerk, Register or Recorder where the case was filed. The portal page itself loads only through a script, so its search fields and any disclaimer are on the application, and the Massachusetts county pages at SearchSystems list the clerks.
iCORI: the name based criminal record
The Department of Criminal Justice Information Services explains on its CORI page that Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information consists of name based court arraignment records created and maintained by the Massachusetts courts. A CORI check submits a person's name and date of birth, searches them against Massachusetts court records for a possible record, returns information on available Massachusetts arraignments, contains only Massachusetts information and is not fingerprint supported. Results may take up to ten business days. Requests run through iCORI, whose login page redirected when read, so the categories of requester and the fees are on the iCORI site. Because CORI is built from the courts, the Trial Court portal and a CORI result describe the same arraignments from two directions.
The Department of Correction and Vinelink
The Massachusetts Department of Correction oversees the state prison system of 13 institutions, with headquarters at 50 Maple Street, Milford, (508) 422-3300. Its find an inmate page refused the automated read, but its home page lists Find someone with Vinelink among its featured services, along with visiting, contacting and depositing money for incarcerated individuals, public records requests and data dashboards; news on the page included a pilot remote work program for incarcerated individuals launched September 17, 2026. Vinelink is therefore the department's named custody lookup, and its terms are on that service.
The Sex Offender Registry Board: Levels 2 and 3
The Sex Offender Registry Board registers and classifies convicted sex offenders by risk of re-offense and degree of danger, and its website lists Level 3 offenders and those Level 2 offenders classified after July 12, 2013, identifying offenders living, working or attending an institution of higher learning in the Commonwealth. Information on Level 2 and Level 3 offenders is also available at the local police department or from the board directly. The board is at P.O. Box 392, North Billerica, MA 01862, (978) 740-6400, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with interpreter services free, and its public records page notes that An Act to Improve Public Records, signed June 3, 2016, enhanced public access.
Check a professional license, the corporations search and the voter search
Professional licenses are checked board by board; the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation's Check a professional license page opens on the landscape architects board, and the Division of Occupational Licensure keeps its own check a license page. The Secretary of the Commonwealth's corporations search and voter registration search each answered without text, so their fields are on the pages; both are the office's official searches.
Vital records: 1936 onward at the state, earlier at the Archives and the towns
The Registry of Vital Records and Statistics collects and manages millions of Massachusetts vital records from 1936 to the present and publishes statistics on births, deaths, fetal deaths, divorces and marriages. Its update notice says records of births, marriages and deaths from 1931 through 1935 have recently been transferred to the Massachusetts State Archives, archives@sec.state.ma.us or 617-727-2816, and that pre 1936 birth and death records may also be at the city or town where the event occurred, with pre 1936 marriage records at the city or town where the marriage intentions were filed. The registry is at 150 Mount Vernon St., 1st Floor, Dorchester, MA 02125, (617) 740-2600, and offers certificate orders, amendments, genealogical research guidance and data requests at Vital.DataRequest@mass.gov. For anyone born, married or deceased in Massachusetts before 1936, the town clerk is the first stop.
Deeds, unclaimed money and the ACP
Massachusetts deeds are recorded at the registries of deeds, reached online through Masslandrecords, the official land records site, which answered without text, as did the Secretary of the Commonwealth's registry of deeds page. The Treasurer's unclaimed property search, Find Mass Money, answered with its title only. The Address Confidentiality Program, administered by the Secretary of the Commonwealth and honored by the Registry of Motor Vehicles, gives survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking who have recently relocated to an address unknown to those who endanger them a substitute address for transactions with the RMV and other state entities, with mail forwarded by ACP staff; applications go through a certified application assistant, and people who provide, facilitate or promote legally protected health care, including gender affirming and reproductive care, may also apply. A participant's true address is masked in the records above.
The Public Records Law
The Trial Court Law Libraries' guide to freedom of information and public records collects the laws, regulations, cases and web sources on the subject, within larger guides on privacy, cities and towns, and victims and witnesses, and sends requests about state and local records to the Secretary of the Commonwealth's Public Records Division, whose page answered without text. The law librarians answer specific questions directly.
Massachusetts: iCORI, SORB and the counties
The Trial Court portal answers the case question across the Commonwealth, and a CORI check gives the formal version of the criminal part. Vinelink and the SORB site settle custody and registration at the levels the state publishes. Companies and licenses follow from the Secretary of the Commonwealth and the boards, deeds from the registries of deeds through Masslandrecords, and vital records from the state registry or, before 1936, the town clerk; the Massachusetts county pages at SearchSystems list the registries and clerks.
Paid people search reports on Massachusetts residents draw on these same records; the Trial Court portal and the registry of deeds are where their claims are checked.
