The Missouri Department of Corrections, MODOC, runs the Offender Web Search, which states what it does and does not do: it searches active offenders, probationers and parolees included, by first and last name including aliases, behind a code the visitor types from an image; it gives nothing on discharged offenders, and information about certain offenders is withheld for safety, security or confidentiality. A person held in a county jail before trial or on a county sentence is the sheriff's record, reached through the Missouri county pages.
For a prisoner, the result's facility is the key to everything that follows, because the department's rules on visiting, phones, mail and money run through the institution, and the Family and Friends page gathers them. Its Constituent Services Office, at 573-526-2695 or constituentservices@doc.mo.gov, answers families, legislators and the public about an offender and about department policy when given the offender's name, DOC number and a clear request.
- Search: the Offender Web Search for anyone active with the department, in prison or under probation and parole supervision, never for the discharged.
- Visits: an application at the department's visitor site, a criminal history check, and from October 1, 2026 a fresh application when the approved one turns three years old or the visitor turns 18; three visitors plus up to three children age five and under, most prisons Friday through Sunday in two sessions.
- Mail and money: personal letters to Offender Name and DOC ID#, C/O Digital Mail Center-Missouri DOC, PO Box 25678, Tampa, FL 33622-5678, to be scanned to the tablet; money through JPay, MoneyGram code 2439, or a money order payable to the Missouri Department of Corrections with a deposit slip to the Offender Finance Office, P.O. Box 1609, Jefferson City, MO 65102.
- Calls and email: outgoing only, with a PIN, collect, debit or prepaid through Securus at 800-844-6591, and eMessaging with electronic stamps on the JPay tablets every adult institution issues.

Visiting: the application and the October 1, 2026 rule
Every visitor is pre approved after a visiting application completed honestly, with a criminal history check, and the offender is told of the approval or denial and is responsible for telling the visitor; a denied applicant may appeal within 30 days to the Deputy Division Director of Adult Institutions at 2729 Plaza Drive, PO Box 236, Jefferson City, MO 65102, and may reapply after one year. Immediate and extended family, a significant other, friends and clergy may apply, and a visitor may visit only one offender unless immediate family of more than one.
The department's notice on updated background checks sets the new rule: from October 1, 2026 a visiting application must be renewed when it is three years old and when the visitor turns 18, anyone who applied before turning 18 or whose approval predates October 1, 2023 had to submit a new application, and without an approved application on file no one visits. A visit is limited to three visitors per offender plus up to three more aged five and under, offenders in reception and orientation get one visit a month, weekends may be reserved for immediate family or one designated person, and the number and length of visits vary by facility.
Visitors arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before visiting starts and enter first come, first served, with no person or pet left in a vehicle; adults show a photo ID, visitors 13 to 18 a school or government ID, and anyone under 18 comes with an authorized adult unless married to the offender. Coins for vending machines come in a clear bag, life sustaining medication in its original container with advance notice, and infant supplies in one clear carry all.
Everyone and everything entering is subject to search with metal detectors and an itemizer wipe, and since August 1, 2024 the Intercept full body scanner, rolled out facility by facility through December 2024, scans anyone 18 or older without an approved exception for a medical condition or pregnancy. The dress code bars tight, baggy, transparent or revealing clothing, camouflage, gang or inflammatory symbols, skirts and shorts above the kneecap, wrap or slit skirts, and holes in pants.
Visiting hours
Most institutions open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., as the hours page lists for Algoa, Boonville, Chillicothe, Crossroads, Bonne Terre, Farmington, Fulton, Jefferson City, Moberly, Pacific, Bowling Green, Potosi, Licking, Charleston, Tipton and St. Joseph. The Maryville Treatment Center opens Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Ozark on the same days in two blocks, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., and Farmington gives its first and third Sunday afternoons to food visits and the second and fourth to treatment offenders.
The women's center at Vandalia splits its sessions between general population and treatment, diagnostic and no contact offenders, allows general population eight visits a month and diagnostic and treatment offenders one, counts up to six visitors including three aged ten and under, and hosts the Let's Start bus trip on the fourth Sunday and Girl Scouts Beyond Bars on the fourth Saturday afternoon.
Calls and email
Offenders cannot receive calls but may place them unless on restricted status, with limited access in segregation, through telephones programmed for collect, debit and prepaid calls and a phone application on their tablets; each call needs a personal identification number, is monitored and opens with a recorded message that it comes from a correctional facility. Minutes are bought at the canteen or a kiosk or funded through a Securus account, where Advance Connect prepays calls to a specific number.
Toll free and three way calls bring discipline, and families are told not to connect offenders to one another. A called party can block future calls by following the prompts and then report continued contact to the institution, which identifies the offender by PIN; the institution cannot place a block on an outside phone, and a carrier that detects third party calls or a jump in the bill may block the line, in which case Securus at 800-844-6591 restores the calls.
Every adult institution issues JPay tablets, and Securus eMessaging lets a family member with an account send a message, up to five photos, up to five eCards, a Snap n' Send photo or a 30 second VideoGram, paid with a book of electronic stamps that are not refunded when content is rejected for sexually explicit writing, nudity, lyrics with a parental advisory, tattoo patterns or gang depictions.
Mail: the digital mail center and the legal mail change
Since July 1, 2022 personal postal mail is not accepted at the adult institutions. A letter, postcard, picture or drawing goes to Offender Name and DOC ID#, C/O Digital Mail Center-Missouri DOC, PO Box 25678, Tampa, FL 33622-5678, where it is scanned to the offender's media player or, for an offender without a tablet, printed and delivered; the envelope needs a return name and address, no more than ten items, pages the sender is encouraged to number, blue or black ink, and a self addressed stamped envelope if the original is wanted back, and scanned mail is held 45 days and discarded.
The institutions still accept privileged legal mail, certified mail pre approved by the case manager for identification and documents needing a signature, publications sent directly by a publisher or vendor, and visitor applications. Greeting cards are only the digital ones bought through Securus. Labels, stickers, felt tip or glitter ink, photos of an offender, altered or two ply pictures, collages, screenshots of conversations, catalogs and calendars are rejected, as are food, clothing, cash, money orders, checks, stamps and stamped envelopes; a sender may ask the warden for an independent review within 30 days of the rejection notice.
For attorneys the department adopted Secure.li on May 1, 2026, a free web system for uploading privileged PDF documents the client prints at no cost, deleted after 30 days, with an email to the attorney if a document is unopened after 15 days; since July 1, 2026 any privileged paper document arriving at an institution is returned to the attorney, who may instead bring documents to a visit for copying, while CDs and DVDs without documents may still be mailed in a labeled envelope.
Money and books
Each offender has an account for phone time, clothing, legal and writing supplies, small appliances, hygiene items and snacks, and the department warns that depositing to another offender's account suggests illegal activity and brings sanctions. Deposits go through JPay online, the JPay app, 800-574-5729, or cash at a MoneyGram location with receive code 2439, or by a money order or cashier's check payable to the Missouri Department of Corrections with the department's deposit slip, sent to the Offender Finance Office, Missouri Department of Corrections, P.O.
Box 1609, Jefferson City, MO 65102, which handles money only, posts a mailed deposit within one to three business days and answers at 573-526-6445; the offender reads the balance and the sender's name at a kiosk. Since September 25, 2023 a friend who wants to pay for a book or magazine adds the cost to the account and the offender orders it through a case manager, a request the department calls a green check, with the publication shipped straight from the distributor; tablets carry more than 10,000 free Project Gutenberg books and the prison libraries more than 220,000 items.
Reading a Missouri result
A hit in the Offender Web Search means a person is active with the department, in an institution or under supervision, and a miss means discharge, exclusion or a county jail. The institution sets the visiting sessions, the Tampa address takes the letters, the Jefferson City box takes the money orders, and from October 1, 2026 no visit happens on an application older than three years.
