  • Court System - The Tennessee court system has four levels. First are: Courts of General Sessions (civil, domestic relations, mental health, estate, small claims, misdemeanor, traffic); Municipal Courts (city violations, traffic, preliminary hearings); and Juvenile Courts (paternity, juvenile). Second are trial courts: Circuit Courts (domestic relations, civil, criminal); Criminal Courts (in 13 districts, felony trials & misdemeanor appeals); Chancery Courts (courts of equity for civil & domestic relations); and Probate Courts (estates, wills, conservatorships & guardianships). Third are the Court of Appeals (civil, agency & juvenile appeals); and Court of Criminal Appeals (capital, felony, misdemeanor & juvenile criminal appeals). Fourth is the Supreme Court, which reviews decisions from lower courts.  Tennessee Court Records
  • Criminal Records - Misdemeanors, infractions, and traffic violations are handled by the Courts of General Sessions. Traffic and other violations occurring within a city are handled by Municipal Courts. The Capital is Nashville and the largest city is Memphis.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.tn.gov/.  Tennessee is the 17th most populous state in the United States.  The 2014 population estimate is 6,549,352 and the 2010 census population was 6,346,275.  The land area is 41,234.90 square miles and there are 153.9 persons per square mile.

79.1% of the population is White, 17% is Black or African American, 4.9% is Hispanic or Latino, 1.6% is Asian, 0.4% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.7% are two or more races. 84.4% are a high school graduate or higher, and 23.8% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $139,200. There are on average 2.52 persons per household, the per capita income is $24,409, the median household income is $44,298, and 17.6% of the persons in Tennessee are considered below poverty level.
