Florida Public Records at a Glance
Florida's Sunshine Law makes it one of the most open records states in the country, and the infrastructure matches. Every county clerk posts court dockets online, most with document images, and the statewide portal ties them together — the Florida court records page lists both layers. The Department of Law Enforcement runs a public criminal history name-search that anyone can use for a fee, no eligibility rules. Birth and death certificates come from the Bureau of Vital Statistics; county clerks handle marriage records. Property appraisers in all 67 counties publish free parcel data, and Sunbiz makes corporate filings searchable at no cost. The 550 databases below are all official sources.

Florida keeps public records at three levels: federal (FBI, federal courts via PACER), state (court of last resort, state police, department of health, secretary of state), and county-level (sheriffs, clerks, recorders, assessors). Each county maintains its own court, criminal-justice, property, and vital-records offices linked from the county pages below.
Where do I start a Florida court-case search?▼
For statewide trial-court information, start at the Florida State Courts: www.flcourts.gov. Florida federal cases are searched through PACER. For local case dockets, see the Court Records tab and the county page for your area.
How do I get an official Florida background check?▼
Florida's official statewide criminal-history check is run by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) at www.fdle.state.fl.us. Most state-level checks require fingerprints and a fee. A nationwide FBI Identity History Summary is available separately.
Where do I obtain Florida birth, death, or marriage certificates?▼
Certified Florida vital records are issued by the Official Florida Vital Records at www.floridahealth.gov. Recent local events (births, deaths, marriages) can often also be requested from the county clerk or local registrar where the event was filed.
What does it cost to access Florida public records?▼
Most online record indexes in Florida are free to search; fees apply for certified copies, fingerprint background checks, full document images at the recorder, and statewide bulk data. Each agency publishes its current fee schedule — for example the Florida State Courts (courts), the Official Florida Vital Records (vital records), the Official Florida Voter Records (elections), and the Official Florida Professional & Occupational Licenses (licenses).
