  • Court System - The Alaska court system has four levels. At the first are District Courts, trial courts that handle misdemeanors, offenses, violations, felony preliminary hearings, civil cases up to $100K, small claims, domestic violence cases, and inquests. In rural areas that do not have full-time district court judges, Magistrates may handle civil & criminal matters. Magistrates also assist the district court with routine matters in metropolitan areas. At the second level are the Superior Courts, which hear criminal felony, civil, domestic relations, juvenile, child abuse, and guardianship cases. At the third level is the Court of Appeals, which reviews decisions by the trial courts and Magistrates. At the top level is the Alaska Supreme Court, which can review decisions by all lower courts.  Alaska Court Records
